We’ve been in the Sebring Florida area for a number of years now, and up until now, “She Who Must Be Obeyed” did not have any particular interest in dining at the Sonnys BBQ in Sebring Florida. Frankly, neither did I.
However, in looking for options for dinner out with a group of friends, we thought we’d best try this Sebring Sonnys location. We are quite glad we did.
When we visited their website we didn’t see any listings in the menu for beer or wine. Some of our group enjoy a glass of wine or beer, and absence of that would make a visit to Sonnys BBQ in Sebring a bit problematical for them. However, when we were at Sonnys Sebring we learned that this location offers diners a broad range of beverages including wine and beer. They even offer beer at a happy hour price from 4-6 m. (In December 2019 at least).
There’s more room inside than first thought, including a back room with larger tables for bigger groups. That’s good.
Sonnys BBQ Menu
The offerings are quite diverse, with a focus on BBQ food, of course.
Since time has long since stolen our ability to eat large meals, we tended to be a bit conservative in ordering meals.
One person ordered their Redneck Egg Rolls which really are “Loaded with Pulled Pork, homemade coleslaw and Pepper Jack cheese with a side of smokey Ranch dip.” Folks this is not a diet dish, but oh boy, was it good. There was enough to share a piece or two with other diners, and all were quite impressed.
Another ordered Sonnys Sweet Carolina sandwich, which is a “Pulled Pork topped with homemade coleslaw and Sonny’s Signature Carolina Sauce on a fresh toasted bun.” The side that was ordered was their signature baked beans.
One of the things about pulled pork is that it can sometimes be very tough. With those meals, you get your money’s worth, as you get to chew for hours to get them down. Not so at this Sonnys Sebring location. Oh my, tender? Yes indeed. Flavor? Lots. And then, the baked beans had just a hint of heat, robust flavor and were, along with the sandwich, absolutely delicious.
Sonnys BBQ in Sebring overall thoughts?
The server at our table was above-average. Well spoken, polite, caring, and either provided information themselves or brought another person to our table to answer questions that eluded them. Would that all servers were like this one was.
This Sonnys looks a bit shop worn, if you get my meaning. Their logo says they’ve been in business since 1968, and though this one likely hasn’t been around that long, it’s time to lighten up the decor and brightness here, in our opinion.
A bit more attention might be paid to the overall cleanliness of the dining area. Since children are often clients, they, and sometimes even me, tend to leave a spoor when we eat, with bits sprinkled liberally onto the floor! Be nice if they jumped on that so that neighboring diners didn’t have to enjoy that view all during a meal.
And maybe, don’t scrape plates into a dish-washing bucket on a table adjacent to folks trying to enjoy dinner? That’s not too appetizing, and we sure do want to focus on the grub. Sure, we recognize the need to clear tables as diners leave, but not so much enjoying the washing of food crusted dishes into a bucket while they were clearing the nearby table.
Will we go back to Sonnys Sebring?
Yes indeed. Our hope is that the food the next time will be as good as it was this visit just passed.
Meals are well priced, ample, and service, including meal delivery was prompt.
Thanks Sonnys. See you again soon.
