Yup, it’s a bit of a drive, yet as you glide along Scenic Road 101, there is lots to see. The Crooked Bass restaurant is about 40 minutes from Sebring Florida and, in our opinion, worth the drive for lunch or supper.

The Crooked Bass is quite easy to get to by car. Drive north on highway 27 out of Sebring to #17, and take the right turn to Frost Proof. You’re now on the right road, and you continue straight on until to get to Babson Park and to #1010 Scenic Highway on the right about half way through town. Again, it’s an easy 40 minute drive, and gives you the chance to see more of Florida.
Four of us stopped by for lunch recently (2019). It’s a good location to meet folks coming down from the north, and saves them a bit of the drive if they don’t want to go all the way to Sebring.
As you may have guessed from the name of this restaurant, the Crooked Bass has a fishing theme!

As part of their dinner menu, they offer a traditional “Low Country Boil”, all ingredients of which sounded wonderful. But we are there for lunch, appetites are set for a lunch sized menu, so we’ll have to pass on the boil until next time. And yes, for sure, we will be back.
Their soups of the day are delicious, with their home-made-from-scratch gumbo an absolute delight.
Since the theme is fish related, the couple with us shared the grouper platter, and though they were able to eat it all – even with sharing a single order – it was all they could do to finish. “Absolutely delicious” they said, as they scraped their plates clean.

One of our party had the Chef’s salad and again, it was all they could do to eat it all. It was huge, with ample portions of meats, and bacon etc. etc.
The food we experienced was first rate. The service was fast and when the plates were delivered, those items that were supposed to be hot, were hot. Not a little thing in our opinion as so many other restaurants get it wrong.
Lots of interesting fishing related knick-knacks are there to be seen and enjoyed. The condiment container on the table is a fishing tackle box, for example.
The planter out front is a fishing boat!

Once all the meals have been eaten and the beverages enjoyed, take your time and enjoy the fishing wall of fame at the Crooked Bass restaurant, not too far from Sebring Florida.

Bill,
Thank you so much — that is an incredible article! We cannot thank you enough for the wonderful recommendation. It really means a lot and it’s things like this — word of mouth from customers — that are powerful! Please let me know when you are coming in the next time as I would like to meet you (if I didn’t already) and to say thank you in person!
Thanks, again — you made my day.
Tammy

We were there for New Years 2 yrs ago and the owner had prime rib on a smoker. He offered all 8 of us a sample before ordering. With that he,brought out a cereal bowl filled with ‘melt in your mouth’ prime rib. Most of us ordered that and it was the best i have ever had! I highly recommend this restaurant!
Have been there many.times since!!
We have been to the Crooked Bass several times….absolutely wonderful…..have tried several items on the menu and all wonderful…splurged with crab legs at wedding anniversary….yum. So glad they are in Babson Park….we’re in Frostproof!
Went back to the Crooked Bass for another meal, since we, again, used this locale to meet friends driving down from farther north in Florida, and once again, thoroughly enjoyed the meal.
Tried frogs legs for the first time, and yup, if you didn’t know, you wouldn’t be able to tell a frog’s leg from a chicken leg if no one told you. They were wonderful.
Also had the scallops, lightly blackened, juicy and delicious.
