Just south of Sebring Florida, and by that measure then – just north of Lake Placid Florida, is the Henscratch Winery.
Relatively new as wineries go, the first vines were planted here in 1999. In 2003 the first harvest of muscadine and scuppernong grapes took place, and the first bottling took place in the fall of 2003.
Ever since, Henscratch Winery has become the local source for excellent local wines, activities, and shopping for food and drink.
They promote the fact that Henscratch Winery hosts award winning wines, while offering U-Pick muscadine and scuppernong grapes, strawberries in season along with 200 free-range chickens and a Country Store.
Henscratch Winery is kind of a destination where visitors can go and buy their wine… of course, but also acquire and enjoy many of the preserves created for sale in their winery store.
A winery first, perhaps, then a country store, but also, Henscratch Winery hosts a number of events throughout the year to entice locals and visitor’s alike to take time to drive down to Henscratch.
We’ve just attended their Strawberry Festival, and annual event in February for five years now, during which visitors are offered fresh strawberry treats, pick your own strawberries, live music, wine tasting and so on.

Hot food was available from the BBQ pit, with the mouth-watering flavor of fresh BBQ ribs wafting throughout the Henscratch vineyard.

A most enjoyable few hours spent in the beautiful environs of greater Sebring.
